PESHAWAR, June 5: The NWFP Assembly adopted a record eight resolutions on Thursday. Lawmakers sought a reduction in drug prices, provision of gas and electricity to villages, implementation of the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance, 2000, establishment of a circuit bench of the Federal Service Tribunal in Peshawar and an early construction of the Munda dam.

The session, presided over by Speaker Bakht Jahan Khan, didn’t entertain two resolutions regarding the establishment of a board of intermediate and secondary education in Dera Ismail Khan and returning of seeds farms to farmers.

MMA MPA Abdul Majid said the prices of locally manufactured medicines were higher than the prices of drugs imported from India. Dr Salim Khan from Swabi urged the NWFP government to take up the issue with the federal government as it was a national problem.

The house unanimously adopted the resolution.

Through a resolution, Shaukat Habib of the ANP demanded that the federal government should provide gas to the villages of Gumbat, Shekhan, Togh Bala, Togh Payan, Kharmatu, Bilitung, Babri Banda, Gandyani and Bazidkhel in Kohat district.

Yasmeen Pir Mohammed Khan of the ANP underlined the need for the establishment of the circuit bench of Federal Service Tribunal in Peshawar. The house unanimously adopted the resolution.

Dr Simeen Mehmood Jan demanded that the government should implement the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance. Except the NWFP government, she said, all other provincial governments had implemented it. The house passed it unanimously.

Speaking on his resolution, PML-N’s Anwar Kamal Marwat urged the federal government to electrify villages situated between river Tochi and river Kurrum in Ehsanpur, Lakki Marwat.

The house adopted the resolution.

Tabling her resolution, Naeema Akhtar of the MMA said 50 per cent residents of Gujjar Garhi had not been connected to the gas supply line. She requested the house to recommend to the federal government to provide gas to them. The house unanimously adopted the resolution.

Through an identical resolution, Mazhar Qasim Shah of the MMA demanded electrification of village Jadeed in Hazara and replacement of worn-out wires in his area. The house adopted the resolution.

Sikandar Hayat Sherpao, through a resolution, asked the government to recommend to the federal government for the construction of Munda dam. The house adopted the resolution.

Meanwhile, journalists at the press gallery organized a march from the assembly building to the Peshawar High Court for the implementation of the Seventh Wage Award.
