Frequent power outages flayed

Published June 6, 2003

KHAIRPUR, June 5: Electric supply remained suspended for about 20 hours from Wednesday night in Sobhodero town.

The town residents took out a procession against the electricity breakdown and also staged a sit-in.

The protesters raised slogans against the area Hesco officials and what they called artificial loadshedding. They said frequent power breakdowns were engineered by the corrupt Hesco officials to cover line losses.

Meanwhile, the electricity supply remained suspended in the talukas of Kot Diji, Kingri, Thari Mirwah and Khairpur for about four hours, increasing the difficulties of people.

Frequent power breakdowns, coupled with the current heatwave, have made lives of the Khairpur district residents miserable.

THREE DIE: Three people died and about seven others fell unconscious due to heatwave in different parts of the district during last three days.

Those died were identified as Sher Mohammad Phulpoto, 60, resident of Wari Goth, Ms Khairan, resident of Samang village, and Sahib Ujjan, resident of Hussainabad, Kot Diji taluka.

Saeed Ahmed, Javed Iqbal, Zulfiqar, Sajan, Afaq Ahmed and Zulqarnain, all residents of taluka Hingorja, fell unconscious.
