SUKKUR, June 5: A leader of People’s Party Parliamentarians, Ghotki, Abdul Latif Shah, who was arrested by the Ghotki police on the Sarhad bypass on Wednesday, was released at 2am on Thursday.

A petition filed by Advocate Abdul Razzaque Mahar against his arrest was heard in the Sessions Court, Ghotki, on Thursday morning.

The SHO, Ghotki, Rana Nasrullah, told the court that he never arrested Mr Shah, but a case was registered against him under section 12 Zina Hadood Ordinance.

Mr Shah told the court that the police intercepted his car on the Sarhad bypass on Wednesday afternoon and arrested him, and added they released him on Thursday about 2am.

The sessions judge, however, did not pass any order after receiving both the statements.

It has been learnt that the district Nazim, Ali Gohar Khan Mahar, took serious notice of the arrest and held talks with senior advocates of the district.

Later, some advocates held a meeting with the DPO, Ghotki, who ordered Mr Shah’s release.
