KARACHI, June 5: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that after the city government came into being, millions of rupees have been spent on repair of roads, sewerage disposal and water supply in Korangi.

Now streets are being carpeted, with major roads, he said.

He was addressing people on Thursday after inaugurating various roads constructed in Korangi Town at a cost of Rs25 million.

The Nazim inaugurated Roads 9000, 1000, 12000 and 8000 which were suffering from damages for the last 10 years and have now been built by the city government.

Besides industrial area, the newly-constructed roads will also benefit the residential areas where thousands of vehicles pass through daily.

Nazim Karachi said that after its establishment, the city government paid special attention to construction of roads. Not only major roads are being constructed, but such roads on which work was at a standstill were also completed.

He described as appreciative the performance of the Town administration and union councils.

He praised the performance of Nazim Korangi Town, Abdul Jamil Khan and said he carried out the reconstruction of a dilapidated town where sewerage lines and drains have been repaired, people provided the facility of water, street-lights installed and streets carpeted.

CIVIC CENTRE: Sindh minister for local government Mohammad Hussain Khan on Thursday inaugurated work on construction of roads and installation of sodium lights in union council Civic Centre under the UC development programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Nazim of the union council Nasir Daud Weerani said the government got most revenue from their union councils, thus they expected the government to resolve their problems, too.

He said still some roads of the UC, including Alamgir Road, Stadium Road, Jamaluddin Afghani Road and Sirajuddolah Road, were in a dilapidated condition and need an improvement.

He requested the local government minister to order construction of these roads with the MPAs funds.

The Nazim said entrance and exit of the LSR Water Hydrant had damaged the only double road for the residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block 14. “If an alternative road was used by the water tankers, this problem of the residents would be resolved”.

DCO Mir Hussain Ali informed they were including the double road scheme in the Khushhal Pakistan Programme while the matter of use of alternative road by the water tankers would also be considered.

Installation of signal at University Road before PIB Water Pumping Station was also suggested, which would facilitate the people in crossing the road, otherwise it is an uphill task. —APP/PPI
