QUETTA: Doctors in Balochistan’s government-run hospitals continued their strike over the abduction of senior doctor Munaf Tareen for a third day on Friday, DawnNews reported.

Due to the strike called by the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), OPDs remained shut in Civil Hospital Quetta and at the Bolan Medical Complex, causing patients requiring medical treatment to suffer.

Doctors in the province have been protesting against the hazardous conditions in which they have been working in the southwestern province.

Heart specialist Dr Tareen was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Sept 17 from Pishin Stop, one of the high security zones of Quetta.

Today, members and officials of the PMA were present in the strike camp at the Civil Hospital protesting against Dr Tareen’s kidnapping.

The doctors say they would continue the strike until the recovery of the senior heart specialist.

The failure to trace Dr Tareen's whereabouts is seen by many among the doctors as the government's indifference towards the case. Doctors in Balochistan have even threatened to migrate to other provinces if Dr Tareen is not recovered soon.

Incidents of kidnapping for ransom are on the rise in Balochistan in general and in Quetta in particular.
