MANSEHRA, June 3: Lt-Gen Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai, corps commander of Peshawar, has said imparting education to younger generation is the need of the hour to meet challenges of the 21st century.
He was speaking to teachers and students of different schools after attending a briefing at the Human Development Support Unit of the National Commission for Human Development here on Tuesday.
The corp commander visited many schools in union councils Shinkiari and Som Elahi Mong and in Mansehra.
He said lack of resources was the main hurdle in the way of raising the literacy rate but “we would have to educate our children by living within our means”. No one from outside would come to educate our children and we would have to do it by ourselves, he added.
The corps commander urged teachers to put in all their efforts for converting the dream of achieving 100 per cent literacy rate into a reality.
PML-Q MNA Sardar Shahjehan Yousaf, NCHD chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf, and HDSU general manager Pervez Khan were prominent among those who attended the gathering.
