RAWALPINDI, June 2: The federal government has directed all provincial governments to computerize prison record, an official source said on Monday.
He said the federal government had asked all the provincial governments to implement automation of jails project and computerize the prison record.
At first stage, the prison record of all the central jails would be computerized, followed by the record of the district jails and lock-ups, the source said.
The computerization of “prison record” of eight central jails of the Punjab has been started as part of the automation project.
Adiala Jail deputy superintendent Mohammad Ayub told Dawn that one computer set had been provided to the prison as part of the automation project of jails, however, the trained staff was yet to be appointed. For Adiala jail, at least five computers and trained staff are required.
He said: “Computerization will help the jail authorities preserve the record of under trial and convicted prisoners.”
