SUKKUR, June 2: Water supply to the Pat Feeder Canal was resumed on Monday after negotiations were held among the Irrigation Employees Union, chief engineer of the Gudu Barrage and senior police officials.

Activists of the Upper Sindh Irrigation Employees Union, Gudu Barrage, had closed the canal on Sunday morning in protest against the kidnapping of four irrigation department employees.

On the assurance of the chief engineer, Gudu Barrage, Abdul Sattar, and the police officers that efforts were being made to recover the kidnapped employees, employees of the irrigation department agreed to reopen the canal.

The staff of the control room of the Gudu Barrage has confirmed that the canal has been reopened.

However, the employees threatened that they would again close the canal if the employees were not recovered in three days.

The IG, Sindh police, during his tour of the area, took serious notice of the incident and asked the DIG, Sukkur range, and the DPO, Jacobabad, to ensure early recovery of the employees.

He, however, said the irrigation officials should ask for police guard before visiting the Shahi Wah or the Pat Feeder Canal because of the law and order situation in the area.
