PESHAWAR, Dec 12: As the war in Afghanistan took new turn, the wife of an Afghan commander who mysteriously disappeared from his house in Peshawar in 1995, has once again appealed to all concerned to help her find her husband.

In view of the reports that after the fall of the Taliban regime, several prisoners have been released in various parts of Afghanistan particularly in Kandahar, the wife of Jamiatullah Jalal along with her small daughter Meena has again rushed to Peshawar from Afghanistan so that contacts could be established with concerned people and search for her husband restarted.

Commander Jamiatullah Jalal was a democrat political activist. He was arrested soon after the communists took over Kabul in 1978, and remained imprisoned for over eight months but later he escaped.

On return to his home, he led the uprising against the Soviets and Soviet-backed commanders.

During the war against the Soviet forces, he played a pivotal role and after the defeat of the communist regime, he joined the forces working for restoration of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. He was an active member of the Council for Understanding and National Reconciliation, a party of moderate, democrat, liberal and peace-loving Afghans.

He was the general-secretary of this council when he was abducted from his house in 1995. A lot of efforts have been made since then both by his family and well-wishers to locate him.

Appeals were also made through media to different bodies but his whereabouts could not be known. Even different UN bodies published his pictures and made appeals but all efforts have so far gone in vain.

His wife and small daughter have appealed to the Afghan commanders and the general public besides the media to help her find her husband.—PPI
