KARACHI: Five people were killed in several incidents of violence on Monday and four bodies were recovered from different areas of the city, despite targeted operations being conducted in the metropolis by Rangers and police personnel.

A father and his two sons were shot multiple times in the Jhatpath Market of Lyari. They were taken to a hospital in serious conditions, and succumbed to their wounds during treatment.

According to the police, the two sold chickpeas in the area.

In another incident, three bodies were found in gunny bags inside a car parked in the Naveed Cottages area of Gulistan-i-Johar. All three bodies bore torture marks.

According to the police, the car belonged to a textile company, and had been stolen a few days ago.

Moreover, a person was shot dead on the city's University Road while another was killed in Orangi Town Sector 4.

Another body was recovered from Mauripur Road.

Moreover, West Zone Police claimed to have arrested 53 suspects in the past 24 hours. According to the police, the arrested suspects include extortionists and those involved in serious crimes.

Rangers personnel also conducted targeted operations in Lines Area, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Ziaul Haq Colony, Godhra, North Nazimabad, Quaidabad, Moosa Colony and Haryana Colony among many other areas. At least 25 suspects were arrested during the operations.

Police claimed to have confiscated drugs and weapons from the arrested persons.

Karachi, the financial hub of the country, is currently undergoing a targeted operation by Rangers and police forces to rid it of extortionists, kidnappers and gangs that have infested the provincial capital.
