HYDERABAD, May 31: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam(F) activists held a demonstration here on Saturday to protest against the kidnapping and wrongful detention of party district Salar and guard of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Saleem Sindhi alias Hashim, allegedly by the personnel of law enforcement agency.

Speaking at the rally outside the press club, the provincial coordinator of the party, Azam Jahangiri, said that Mr Sindhi was kidnapped from his village Darya Khan Talpur, near Bhit Shah, on Thursday by some armed persons and taken away in a government vehicle.

He said that Mr Sindhi was set free near the Naseem Nagar Chowk, Qasimabad, on Saturday.

Mr Jahangiri said that the JUI-F had nothing to do with the Al-Qaeda or Afghan Jihad. He said that the party was striving for the enforcement of Islamic way of life in Pakistan and was not involved in any terrorist activity.

He said that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was informed about the incident about which he had lodged protest with President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

Mr Sindhi in his speech said that after being kidnapped, he was grilled by the personnel of law enforcement agency for two days about the JUI’s connection with the Al-Qaeda.

Mr Sindhi said that he could not say as to which agency his tormentors belonged.

JUI councillor Haji Talib Khaskheli warned that if the people were kidnapped by the LEA people wearing civilian clothes, there could be bloodshed since the kidnappers might be taken as bandits.

HUNGER STRIKE: Over two dozen activists of the Sindhi Hindu Sudhar Tanzeem, a minority organization of the Awami Tehrik, observed a token hunger strike outside the local press club on Saturday to protest against the occupation of a temple and a community centre in Tando Ghulam Ali by some land grabbers.
