ISLAMABAD, May 30: The government will soon establish a separate university and a medical college for women in the NWFP, said adviser to the prime minister on women development and special education, Nilofar Bakhtiar.
She was speaking to mediapersons here on Friday at the Press Information Department (PID) to brief them on her recent tour to Bhutan, where she had gone to participate in the Fourth Regional Ministerial Meeting commemorating Beijing Declaration.
In reply to a question, Ms Bakhtiar said though setting up of educational institutions at such a level came under the federal ministry of education, however, ministry of women development was pushing the quarters concerned for the welfare of womenfolk in the country. Except NWFP, rest of the country has enough educational institutions for women, both in private and public sectors, she added.
“I have asked the prime minister to set up one independent university and a medical college for women,” she said.
About her trip to Bhutan, she said the meeting had been organized by the United Nations Development Fund for Women Development (UNIFEM) and the Royal Government of Bhutan.
Pakistani delegation, she said, had convincingly made her presence felt among the participating SAARC countries and successfully got registered its concern for the development of Pakistani women.
She said the meeting adopted a document called ‘Bhutan: forward moving strategies’ which gives an informal prioritization of issues; gender analysis of budget, violence against women and trafficking in women.
Ms Bakhtiar said, four crisis centre for women would be set up this year in Kohat, Quetta, Rawalpindi and Larkana.
APP ADDS: Advisor to Prime Minister on Women Affairs Nilofar Bakhtiar has said the National Policy for Disabled will be launched on June 7 at Lahore.
Presiding over the first National Organization for Welfare’s special persons quiz programme here, she said in the policy titled ‘Specially Yours’, special persons demands would be highlighted.
She said workshops and seminars would be conducted under the policy and in their recommendations for rehabilitation of special persons, a national plan of action would be framed.
She said in the capital a hostel, park, special bank and a rehabilitation centre for special persons would soon be established.
She also distributed prizes among winners of the three competitions. In ‘Qirat’ competition, Mohammad Iftikhar got first, Abbas Syed second and Humna claimed third prize whereas consolation prize was awarded to Rizwan.
