PESHAWAR, Dec 12: Sheikhul Hadees Maulana Hassan Jan, Mohtamim Jamia Mosque and former MNA, has said that like other parts of the country, the Ulema of the NWFP in general and Charsadda, Mardan and Swabi in particular are duty-bound to obey decisions of the central Ruet-i-Hilal committee in respect of sighting the moon of Ramazan and Eidain.

In a statement, issued here on Wednesday, he said: “We have very bad reputation in this regard as compared to other parts of the country, hence Ulema must realize their responsibilities and follow decisions of the Ruet-i-Hilal committee designated by the state for sighting moon instead of forming local moon-sighting committees at Charsadda and Mardan etc., on their own while wholehearted cooperation with central Ruet-i-Hilal committee is Shariah, legal and moral obligation of all Ulema.”

He said the recently-taken unanimous decision on sighting the moon of Ramazan was a good omen and “it is the need of the hour that this tradition is adopted.”
