PESHAWAR, Dec 12: Speakers at a one-day seminar on devolution of power for Nazimeen and councillors, stressed the need for motivation of the female community in their bid to remove social, economic and political problems.

The seminar, held at Tor Mor Rest House here on Wednesday, was organized by the Citizens Action Committee, Malakand, in collaboration with the Aurat Foundation.

District Nazim Malakand, Engineer Mohammad Hamayun Khan, was the chief guest on the occasion. A large number of male and female Nazimeen and councillors attended.

The speakers highlighted the main objectives of the devolution of power plan. It was stated that for the first time the female class was given due representation in the social activities.

The speakers were of the view that there was a clear difference between the local bodies systems of the previous military governments and the existing one.

They said the main characteristic of the existing LB system was that the people had been directly involved in the government. They said the female segment of the society had better skills and if chances were provided to them to unlock their potential, the society, as a whole, would be the beneficiary.

The district Nazim said such gatherings would enable the female class to speak out about their problems. He disclosed that 33 per cent funds of the district budget would be utilized for the welfare of the female community.

He said female councillors and Nazimeen were not restricted to their respective union councils but they would represent females of the whole district.

Soon after Eidul Fitr, developmental work would be started in Malakand, he promised. He said postings and transfers would be avoided and all resources would be diverted to removing hardships of the masses.

About corruption, he said efforts were afoot to bring the menace to an end.
