HYDERABAD, May 29: Speakers here on Wednesday eulogized the services of the late Dr Khan Mohammed Panhwar, known for his village development concept, in the field of social work.

The function was organized by the Dr Khan Mohammad Panhwar Trust at the fourth death anniversary of Dr Panhwar in collaboration with the Hyderabad Press Club and the Sindh Goth Sudhar Sanagat.

The director of Press Institute of Pakistan and former the chairman of department of Mass Communication, University of Karachi, Prof Zakariya Sajid, was the chief guest on this occasion.

Paying tribute to the founder of the Sindh Goth Sudhar Sangat, (Sindh village development committee), Prof Sajid said that apart from his teaching profession, Dr Panhwar worked for the development of rural areas.

He said kudos goes to the late Panhwar for the establishment of Mass Communication department at the University of Sindh in 1976. He said that it was for the first time in 1957 that the university started masters classes in journalism but due to non- availability of the academic staff the department was closed down.

Prof Sajid said that from 1957 to 1976 not a single student in the field of journalism was produced by the university.
