HYDERABAD, May 29: A large number of businessmen held a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad Gymkhana on Thursday against Hesco for issuing inflated and detection bills.
The Sindh minister for Works and Services, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, who was holding a meeting with MPAs at the gymkhana, along with MPAs Aslam Pervez, Zahid Bhurgari, Nuzhat Pathan and Farheen Mughal, came out and heard grievances of the protesters.
The leaders of the Anjuman-i-Tajran-i-Hyderabad, Saleem Vohra, Ikramuddin Guddu, Fayyaz Awan and others, told the minister and the MPAs that Hesco had issued detection bills amounting to thousands of rupees to businessmen.
HUNGER STRIKE: A large number of sacked workers of the Faran Sugar Mills, Shaikh Bhirkyo, under the banner of the Mazdoor Union, observed a hunger strike outside the press club here on Thursday, demanding that they should be reinstated.
Talking to journalists, the general-secretary of the CBA union, Abdul Karim Mangwano, termed retrenchment of 426 employees of the mill illegal.
He said the workers would continue their hunger strike till they were reinstated.
HIGHWAY POLICE: The inspector general, National Highways and Motorways Police, Ziaul Hassan Khan, has said that the National Highways and Motorway Police is a service-oriented organization and, therefore, the officers of this force should feel proud while helping the motorists in distress.
He was speaking at a police Darbar and annual award ceremony of the National Highways and Motorway Police here on Wednesday.
He said that due to hard work and dedicated service, this force is acclaimed as a model organization.
He emphasized on the new officers to show extra politeness and courtesy while dealing with the motorists.
SINDH UNIVERSITY: The chief secretary, Sindh, K. B. Rind, has said that he was happy to witness a positive change in the educational atmosphere of the University of Sindh.
He expressed these views during a surprise visit to the university on Thursday.
Mr Rind, who is a former student of the Sindh University, met with its vice chancellor, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, and visited various departments and institutes.
The vice chancellor briefed the chief secretary about the facilities available for the teachers as well as students in various institutes and departments of the university.
Mr Rind visited the Allama I. I. Qazi Library and its various sections and met with the students who were busy in their studies in the library.
He asked students about their education, future planning and career.
