US copter down in Iraq; 4 dead

Published May 29, 2003

DUBAI, May 28: Al-Jazeera television said on Wednesday that four US soldiers were killed in Iraq when a helicopter came down.

The Pentagon said it had no information on any missing or crashed United States helicopter in Iraq. It said the US military in Baghdad knew of no such incident but that checks were being made.

Jazeera’s correspondent quoted witnesses in the town of Hit, saying the helicopter crashed during clashes after armed Iraqis had attacked a local police station.

The correspondent reported that United States forces withdrew from city after coming under heavy attacks from residents angry at their presence.—Reuters
