Federation seeks more time in case against President Zardari

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned till September 10 hearing of a petition requesting for barring President Asif Ali Zardari from travelling abroad after completion of his tenure.

A two-member apex court bench, comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Imran-ul-Haq appeared on behalf of the federation and requested the court to give him some time for filing a reply.

Petitioner Shahid Aurakzai contended that President Zardari would be completing his tenure on September 8 and requested the court not to adjourn the case for long.

Leaders belonging to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have said on more than one occasions that President Zardari will do politics and work for his party after vacating the presidency on Sept 8.

Just to be on the safe side and do not give a chance for rumors to prevail, it will certainly be good if Asif Ali Zardari is not allowed to leave the country between now and the final decision of the court. The court may also invite major charges against Zardari from concerned groups for hearing and giving a decision. If allowed to leave the country soon after completing his tenure, Pakistanis would never know if they were really harmed by Asif Zardari?

Anyone who thinks this CJ will send one rich person to jail on corruption is living in a fools paradise. During his 8 years long rule he has filled jails with all poor. His motto is send all poor to jail and all rich to his son (to negotiate)

Very convenient, so he can escape on the evening of September 9 after handing over to new President. So, why is the Supreme Court accommodating Mr. Zardari. In view of various cases against him, they can issue an order now preventing him from leaving the country.
