Wasa in a fix over complaints

Published May 28, 2003

RAWALPINDI, May 27: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) is in a fix over the mounting complaints regarding the constant supply of contaminated water to various parts of the city, official sources said on Sunday.

They said the complaints regarding supply of contaminated water were being received from Nighatabad, Chaman Zar Colony, Muhallah Hukam Dad and Raja Bazaar, where thousands of consumers had been affected by the problem.

They said parts of the city which received three million gallons of water per day (MGD) from Khanpur Dam were also facing the same problems as the main supply pipeline from the dam passed near drains and sewerage at many spots where dirty water got mixed with drinking water.

When contacted, a Wasa official said only 30 per cent of the residential areas under the TMA had a planned sewerage system, while the rest (70 per cent) of the areas were without such system.
