JHANG, May 27: A shop employee, who was illegally detained at the Qadirpur police station’s post for the last four days, was set free by the district and sessions judge on Tuesday.

The judge has also directed the district police officer to hold an inquiry against the police station in-charge and other staff.

Reports said the brother of Karim Bakhsh, resident of Pabarwala village, filed a habeas corpus petition with the district and sessions judge. He said his brother, an employee with the Saeed cloth house at Mandi Shah Jewna, demanded eight-month salary from the shop owner. He said the employer accused his brother of theft and lodged a complaint with police after greasing their palms.

The police picked him up from the shop on the May 22 without registering a case against him and kept him detained in a room, he added.

After his release, Bakhsh told this correspondent that he, along with some other people, was kept in chains. He was given scant food and was unchained only twice in a day, he said.

Showing scars on his body, he said the police had beaten him black and blue.
