ISLAMABAD, May 26: Pakistan has lost its seat on the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda after its nominee, Justice Mansoor Ahmad, has been found “unfit” for the post and has been sent back, officials confirmed here on Monday.

Official sources confirmed that Justice Mansoor Ahmad, who had served as the federal law secretary during the military government for a-year-and-a-half, had gone to take Pakistan’s seat on the tribunal on May 18, was found “not upto the mark.”

Sources said that he was now once again trying to secure the office of federal secretary law.

Pakistan’s nominee was discreetly told to go back after the tribunal learnt that he lacked trial experience and had undergone a six-month-long training as a high court judge.

The General Assembly of the United Nations had elected him as Pakistan’s nominee to serve the ICT for Rwanda between 25 May 2003 and 24 May 2007.

Officials blamed wrong selection for the awkward situation, saying that it was not yet clear if Pakistan would be given an opportunity to nominate another person for the same post.

The other seat was won by Sri Lanka.
