KARACHI, May 26: The Liaquatabad DSP, Irfan Bahadur, had a terrible day on Monday. First he was asked to relinquish charge through a wireless message. Later in the day he was transferred to Sukkur. Afterwards, he was detained at the office of the town police officer. He was released only to be detained at the Liaquatabad police station.

“Through a wireless message, I was told to leave the charge of my office. I complied with the orders by taking some of my belongings. However instead of going home I went to some friends,” Irfan Bahadur told Dawn through his mobile phone.

“Around 3am, I received a message from my house that the Liqauatabad TPO along with some police mobiles reached my residence,” he said.

Later, he reached the TPO office where he was detained. Around 2.30pm he was allowed to leave the office.

However, after an hour or so, Irfan was contacted on his mobile phone and was told to report to the police station.

Till the filing of this report, Irfan was detained in the office of the Liaquatabad SHO.

Irfan told this reporter on phone that during his visit to the police station, the adviser to the chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Shaikh, asked the SHO as to why Irfan was not in the lockup.

In connection with the recent killing of Javed, activist of Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Liaquatabad, Irfan told Dawn that charges were being levelled against him that he was trying to implicate the top leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in the first information report.

When contacted to comment over Irfan’s detention, a senior police official said that as Irfan Bahadur has been transferred to Sukkur, it was being ensured that he complied with the orders and did not get away without taking the charge.

Meanwhile, Inspector Nasirul Hasan of the town intelligence branch, Liaquatabad town, has also been transferred and ordered to report to the CPO, police sources said.
