KHAIRPUR, May 26: On the call of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz, a procession was taken out here on Sunday to protest against construction of the greater Thal canal.

The procession started from the Khaki Shah Pul and terminated at the Panj Gulla Chowk after marching through the Mall Road and the Phool Bagh Road.

Led by JSM senior vice-chairman Agha Qamar, the protesters also demanded jobs for local people in Qadan Wari and Sawan gas fields in Nara taluka.

They also staged a sit-in at the Panj Gulla Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, JSM leaders said no water would be available in the Indus River if the Thal canal was constructed. A large number of people would also be deprived of their source of livelihood, they added.

They appealed to the people to shun their differences and unite on one platform to struggle for the rights of the province.
