LAHORE, May 25: The judgment in Khwajas’ case is not likely to be pronounced on Monday (today).

Defence counsel Pervaiz Inayat Malik told Dawn that he had been informed by the anti-terrorism court that the verdict could not be announced on schedule as some documents filed by him needed verification.

“Public prosecutor Bakhtiar Rana rang me up and delivered the message which, he claimed, had been conveyed to him by ATC judge Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa.”

Mr Malik said the prosecutor had told him that some of the documents filed by him with the court as evidence in support of his clients did not have proper attestation. The documents had been attested for their submission to the Supreme Court only, he quoted the prosecutor as saying.

When contacted in this regard, the prosecutor confirmed that the judgment would be delayed.

Both the prosecutor and the defence counsel have completed their arguments.

The charges that Khwaja Ahmad Javed and his brother Khwaja Ahmad Naveed had links with Al Qaeda were dropped when a chargesheet against them was produced in the court in April. Now, they are only accused of attacking a police party and possessing illicit weapons and passports belonging to foreign nationals.
