WASHINGTON, May 25: Pakistan has launched a new campaign to keep US lawmakers informed of the developments in the country and seek their support for Islamabad’s continued efforts to fight terrorism and improve ties with India.

As part of this campaign Pakistan’s Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi met several senators and Congressmen during the last week.

They included Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar, the Chairman of the House’s International Relations Committee Henry Hyde, Congresswomen Nancy Pelosi, Nita Lowey, senators Joe Biden, John Warner, Chuck Hagel, Sam Brownback, Tim Johnson, Richard Shelby, Lincoln Chafee, Feinstein and Pat Roberts, Congressmen Jim Kolbe, Jim Leach, Dana Rohrabacher, Eni Faleomavaega and Major Owens.

The ambassador briefed the senators and representatives on issues of Pakistan’s concern. “The legislators expressed support for the development of Pakistan-US relations and appreciated the courageous decisions President Gen Pervez Musharraf has made to facilitate the socio-economic development of Pakistan,” said deputy chief of mission, Mohammad Sadiq.

Ambassador Qazi also hosted a dinner for the staffers of the key senators and representatives at his residence on Thursday.
