PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formed a high-level investigative committee to probe the Dera Ismail Khan Jailbreak which led to the escape of at least 253 prisoners on Monday night.

The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) media cell, which has circulated the government orders, said on Wednesday the committee, headed by senior member of Board of Revenue Waqar Ayub, will also comprise Special Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs Syed Alamgir Shah, Additional Inspector General (Special Branch) KP Syed Akhtar Ali Shah and the nominee of 11 Corps Headquarters Peshawar.

The committee has been tasked to probe the incident and submit its report within 15 days in order to identify loopholes which led to the happening.

The provincial government has also suspended Deputy Superintendent-cum-superintendent of D I Khan Central Jail Khalid Rabbani and deputed Bin Yamin in his place as the new in-charge.

Meanwhile according to official sources, the attackers have managed to free some key militants belonging to the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Barrack No-2 of the prison.

They are identified as Walid Akbar, Abdul Hakeem, Ilays, Abdullah, Abdul Rehman of Razgan Bajaur Agency, Ghulam Rasool, Mamoor, Jamaludin and Abdul Rashid. The mentioned militants had been serving jail terms for their involvement in terrorist activities across the country.

Walid Akbar had been sentenced to 133 years by the local court recently for masterminding a number of terrorist activities.

Dawn.com has obtained the list of 253 freed prisoners compiled by the jail authorities submitted to the government.
