RAWALPINDI, May 23: Members and office-bearers of Ittehad-i- Asataza Pakistan (IAP) have welcomed the decision of abolishing the board of governors for colleges and schools.

In a meeting held to consider the recommendations of the Education Commission, the teachers were of the opinion that the proposed board of governors had not only failed to offer positive help to the educational institutions, financially or otherwise, but created obstacles in the daily administration by unnecessarily interfering in the running of the institutions.

It was felt that immediate steps be taken to reactivate the functions of the college councils. But, the provincial government should come forward with measures to strengthen the councils and their working without any outside political pressure and interference, the teachers said.

They were pleased with the recommendation that incentives be offered to teachers to improve their performances. The government should seriously consider a raise in the salary of teachers of colleges and schools along with lifting the ban on house rent.

The meeting was attended by IAP Rawalpindi president Prof Zulfiqar Haider Malik, IAP vice-president Prof Chaudhry Mohammad Farooq and senior IAP member Prof Nasr Abbas Naqvi.

The PPLA Asghar Mall College president, Prof Ghazanfar Bhatti, and Prof Aurangzeb Rana were also present on the occasion.
