SUKKUR, Dec 11: Engineer Syed Naqeeb-ul-Hussain Musavi, president, Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Shakeel Ahmed Mukhtiar, senior vice president, SCCI, and other office bearers and members of the executive committee of the SCCI in a press statement issued on Tuesday strongly condemned the proposed increased line rent and local call charges by the PTCL.
They said that it would have a negative impact on trade and industrial activities throughout the country.
They elucidated that it would be an additional financial burden on the consumers, and added that being a large public sector corporation the PTCL should value its consumers and their problems.
They said that it was quite unfair and unreasonable to raise the line rent and local call rates while there was economic recession in the whole world including Pakistan.
The raise was unjustified as the PTCL was making huge profits.
So there was no justification in raising its utility charges.
They said it will not be out of context to mention here that the utility rates in neighbouring countries are comparatively lower than that of Pakistan and their services are far better than ours.
They, therefore, demanded that the PTCL should withdraw the proposal in the public interest and improve its services.
GANG BUSTED: Ghotki police unearthed a gang of motorcycle snatchers and recovered five motorcycles which they had stolen from different parts of the district.
Ghotki SSP Waliullah Dal told this correspondent on telephone, that during a special drive against outlaws police arrested five persons believed to be members of a gang of motorcycle snatchers who had allegedly stolen five motorcycles during last month.
Those arrested included Rab Nawaz Korai, Ali Anwer Sial, Aijaz Kolachi, Azmet Malik and Sher Dil Machi.
They confessed their involvement in dozens of cases of motorcycle snatching and other crimes, the police official said.
GUARD KILLED: A guard of village Abid Chachar in the jurisdiction of Baiji police station was gunned down by unidentified armed men on Tuesday.
Reports reaching here said three armed bandits entered into the house of local landlord Abid Chachar while the inmates of the house were in sound sleep.
Suddenly Abid Chachar woke up and raised an alarm on which the villagers and the Chowkidar of the village opened fire on the dacoits which was retaliated by the dacoits in which Muhammad Juman watchman died and the dacoits managed to flee.
