KARACHI, May 21: Pakistan will be among the top nations competing in the third World Cadet Championship to be held in Romania form June 8.

Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) has finalised six probables for the Cadet Championship Camp recently started in Karachi at National Sports Training and Coaching Centre (NSTCC).

The probables include Zeeshan Saleem Butt (Sindh), Jibran Muna (Sindh), Mohammed Ali (KPT), Ali Mohammed (Sindh), Karar Hussain (Sindh) and Ali Raza (Balochistan).

A PBF spokesman said that two more boxers are yet to be finalised for the camp by the Cuban Coach Renaldo Alvaris.

PBF President Anwar Chowdhry told that in next 10 to 14 days three boys will be picked from the camp by the Cuban coach for the trials prior to the championship.

PBF will send three potential boxers to participate in the tournament.

Chowdhry said Pakistani pugilists are capable to perform well against top world boxers in the championship and added that they would get the due training before the championship.

Besides Pakistan, top nations participating in the championship are USA, Russia, Azerbaijan, Romania, France, Germany, Australia and Cuba. These nations have good records of past championships and will be the major competitors for Pakistani boxers, Anwar Chowdhry viewed.

Thirty-five nations participated in the first championship held at Azerbaijan in 2001. The event gained popularity in the world of boxing and in the second championship held in Hungary 40 nations featured.

As many as 60 nations will take part in the third championship, which shows how much the other countries affiliated with AIBA are interested in participating in the championship, as it helps the countries to explore the talent from grass root level.—PPI
