MANSEHRA, July 16: A woman suffered critical burns when her husband and in-laws allegedly threw acid on her in Banda Kathsarash area of Balakot on Monday evening.

The woman suffered burns on chest, back and other parts of body and her condition is stated to be critical.

She was taken to Civil Hospital, Balakot whose doctors referred her to Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, where she was admitted.

Local police said they had registered an FIR against five people, who allegedly threw acid on the woman, and one of them had been arrested.

Mohammad Haroon complained to police that his daughter, Shamshad, had married to Mohammad Arif in Karachi but returned to Balakot after their relationship turned sour.

He said his son-in-law later called jirgas to convince wife to go with him but she refused saying he tortured her.

The complainant said his son-in-law along with brothers stormed his house, thrashed inmates and threw acid on wife.

Police said they had arrested one accused, Shahjahan alias Ishaq, and were searching for others.

HOUSES BURNT: The relatives of a man killed by rivals torched houses of the relatives of the accused in Oghi area on Monday night.

The incident occurred in Bandi Sadiq area when Fazalul Haq shot Shahid Ali dead after exchanging harsh words with him.

Local police have yet to ascertain the reason for the killing.

The angry relatives and neighbours of the slain man attacked the houses of the assailant and his relatives and torched them.

Police said eight houses were torched.

However, according to them, no damage to human life was reported.

Policemen later showed up in large numbers and controlled the situation.

Police registered an FIR and began investigation but no arrests could be made until the last reports came in.
