LAHORE, May 21: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has granted recognition to the University of Health Sciences.
According to a handout issued here on Wednesday, the PMDC has decided to recognize the UHS as a valid chartered university after examining its contents and calendar and a legal reading of ordinance of the UHS Punjab-2002.
In a letter to UHS vice-chancellor Prof Dr Malik Husain Mubashir, the PMDC said:” graduates of the UHS registered by PMDC would also qualify for all the privileges in relation to general medical council of the UK and the US.
“This national and international recognition will put to rest all doubts being raised in the minds of the students and their parents.
PMDC chairman Prof Dr Hayat Zafar Khan had been a representative of the university to the council. He is a member of the UHS board of governors and also served as the first acting vice-chancellor of the varsity from Oct 25 last year to April 7 this year.
Recently, Prof Khan’s son-in-law Dr Aftab Mohsin, associate professor of medicine, has been appointed controller of examinations of the university.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mubashir said that one of the prime objectives of the UHS would be to get equivalence for its affiliated institutions with the medical schools of the UK.
