PESHAWAR, May 21: The NWFP government has decided to convene the provincial assembly session on May 26 for legislation on some of the issues promised by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal during its election campaign.

The government wanted to table the Shariat Bill in the assembly for which the Nifaz-i-Shariat Council, a non-elected body of clerics, had already submitted its recommendations to the government, said Education Minister Fazle Ali.

The government enjoys ample majority to get the bill passed.

Pir Mohammad Khan, a Muttahada Majlis-i-Amal MPA from Shangla district, has submitted a resolution with the speaker’s chamber, demanding that wearing of burqa by women be made compulsory in the province.

Mr Khan has also submitted a resolution for changing the name of the province to Pukhtunistan.
