Anti-poppy drive begins

GILGIT, May 21: The law enforcement agencies have launched a drive to eradicate the poppy crop in Darel and Tangeer in Diamer district, officials said.

They said that the local administration, reinforced by police contingents, eliminated the standing poppy cropcultivated over 200 kanals of land.

A police official said that the tribal farmers of Darel and Tangeer were tempted to grow poppy after the news of its cultivation in Kohistan district.
