PESHAWAR, May 21: The NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah  on Tuesday launched an electricity extension project in the Mohmand Agency, which would provide electricity to the Khowizai and Baizai areas bordering Afghanistan, an official handout said.

The governor, while inaugurating the project, said that it would cost Rs40 million, benefiting more than 20 villages.

He directed the authorities concerned to ensure provision of the funds allocated in this regard, saying that it would enable the project to be completed on time.

Earlier, the political agent of the area briefed the governor about the prevailing law and order situation and the development profile of the Mohmand Agency.

He said that 37 development projects, costing Rs213.3 million, had been undertaken under the annual development programme.

He said that Rs68.2 million were being spent on various projects under the accelerated development package for the Ambar area.

He said that an additional amount of over Rs40 million had been allocated for the special development package allocated for the Khowezai area, which included strengthening of roads in Khowizai and Baizai areas.

The governor, besides being told about the development projects being implemented under the Mohmand Area Development Project and the Khushhal Pakistan Programme, was also informed that Rs71.5 million were being spent on development projects being undertaken in remote tribal areas.
