KARACHI, Dec 11: Twenty-three vehicles — 11 cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city in the past 48 hours, police said.

Four cars were hijacked in Darakhshan, Artillery Maidan, Mithadar and Sharea Faisal. Seven others were stolen in Ferozabad, Quaidabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulbahar and Azizabad.

One motorcycle was hijacked in Nazimabad. Eleven others were stolen in Ferozabad, Risala, Saddar, Artillery Maidan, Korangi Industrial Area, Korangi, Defence, Kharadar and Ferozabad.

SHOOTOUT: Police arrested two suspects after a shootout in Surjani Town and recovered a hijacked car from their possession, on late Monday night.

Police said they signalled a car (IDR-767) to stop in sector 5-B in Surjani Town, but the occupants of the car tried to speed away by firing at police.

The police arrested the two suspects, Ghaffar Khan and Bashir, but their three accomplices escaped.

Police said the criminals were using a fake registration number of Islamabad and the car, whose real number was ADP-169, which was hijacked in Darakhshan area.

Police said the suspects disclosed that they sold off hijacked cars in Darra Adam Khail.
