LAHORE, May 8: The Dawn Media Group, in collaboration with Oxford University Press, organised a two-day 5th DAWN in Education Phonetics Workshop 2013 to assist teachers in acquiring knowledge of the essentials of phonetics.

The workshop offered training to some 230 teachers from 80 schools across Punjab, helping them understand various techniques and enabling them to give theoretical explanation for pronouncing a word in a certain manner so that they could explain it to the pupils.

Azka Khan, who holds masters degree in Linguistics from NUML University, conducted the workshop at the OUP’s auditorium in Mini Market, Gulberg.

Ms Khan said the trainees were very responsive and fully aware of the practical usefulness of phonetics and looked forward to having more of such workshops.

Talking to Dawn, the participating teachers expressed their satisfaction with the workshop and lauded the initiative.

Azeema Hussain from Bloomfield Hall stated it was a comprehensive learning experience. “I am definitely going to practice it with my students,” he added.

Anila Kayani from Khayaban Public School and College said it was a great to be part of the phonetics workshop.

The Dawn Media Group has also organised similar workshops in Karachi and Islamabad.
