HYDERABAD, May 19: The PCB’s six-week coaching clinic for under-19 cricketers could not begin on Monday as officials of the board were trying to sort out the problems of overage boys, who were selected during two-day trials in early May.

Of the 24 players, majority of the selected boys reported to the academy on Monday. They have been put up at Sindh Sports Board hostel with PCB bearing all expenses of lodging and boarding.

Half a dozen boys whose names were announced by PCB were believed to be overage and their documents were being checked. Some of the selected players remained absent while a few were asked to bring their original documents to verify their ages.

Azeem Hafeez, the chief coach of the clinic, told this correspondent that the documents of players were being checked. Azeem would be assisted by Hafeez-ur-Rehman, the sports officer of Taluka Council Qasimabad.

The supervisor of Regional Academy ground, Yar Mohammad Solangi said that he was in contact with Col Pervez Ahmed, the administrator of PCB’s regional academies, about selection of overage players.

Azeem, meanwhile, said that hopefully the clinic would begin from Tuesday as per schedule time after scrutiny of documents and the overage culprits replaced by reserved players.
