ISLAMABAD, May 19: The government has decided that it will give full financial autonomy to district courts in the federal capital.

The district judiciary from the next fiscal year will be given independent budget so that they could run their legal affairs by themselves.

Sources said that the district judiciary had submitted a summary to the federal government in this regard.

The district courts have been facing shortage of judges and other staff, resulting in a gradual increase of pending cases to over 14,000.

During the Nawaz Sharif government, courts all over the country had been given financial autonomy under the separation of judiciary from administration programme.
