ISLAMABAD, May 19: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has demanded implementation of the Seventh Wage Board Award.

The demand was made through various resolutions passed on the concluding day session of the three-day biennial delegates meeting at the National Press Club here on Sunday.

PFUJ President I.H. Raashed presided over the meeting in which about 200 delegates and observers participated.

Through another resolution, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists opposed efforts to amend the Newspapers Employees Condition of Service Act 1973 and vowed to resist any such moves.

The PFUJ also called for abolishing appointments in the newspapers on a contract basis.

The journalists resolved to continue their struggle to achieve their rights. They said in many cases salaries of newspaper employees had not been raised for the past eight years despite the price hike and increase in inflation.

They said the owners of print media were now turning to electronic media and their income had been increasing constantly with the increase in all types of advertisement rates.

The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists also asked the government to make efforts to turn newspapers into public limited companies and force the newspaper owners to present their income and expenditure before the public every year.

The journalists’ body rejected the press council and termed it a black law.
