PESHAWAR: Hearing over Dr Shakil Afridi’s case was adjourned on Thursday by the Commissioner FCR Sahibzada Anees until June 13, citing his engagements for security arrangements during the upcoming elections.

The state counsel was to complete his argument today May 2 but because of Commissioners other engagements, the case was adjourned till June 13.

During the last hearing Dr Shakil Afridi’s counsel Samiullah Afridi had completed the arguments on Shakil Afrid’s  conviction by the APA Bara and had pleaded that the APA who has the power of a judicial magisterate had no authority to award such a punishment.

Shakil Afridi was accused of assisting the United States'  Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in obtaining DNA samples of former Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden through a fake vaccination campaign and convicted for involvement in anti-state activities by a tribal court and sentenced to 33 years.

Afridi was charged under the British-time Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) that unlike the Pakistan Criminal Code (CPRC), does not carry death penalty for high treason.
