KARACHI: Paceman Mohammad Abbas bagged another five-wicket as Pakistan Television (PTV) dominated the opening day of the four-day Patron’s trophy final against Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) in Mirpur (Azad Jammu Kashmir) on Monday.

After being sent into bat by PTV skipper Imad Wasim, KESC folded up for a modest 208 in their first innings at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium with the 23-year-old right-armer Abbas grabbing five wickets for 107 runs in 23.3 overs with fellow right-arm seamer Hamza Nadeem providing good support by claiming three for 43 in 13 overs.

PTV, in reply, reached stumps at 125-3 with opener Raheel Majeed holding their innings together by scoring an unbeaten 53 in an 84-ball knock containing nine hits to the fence. Zeeshan Mushtaq (13) was the other batsman at the crease. All three batsmen — Naeem Anjum, Nawaz Ahmed and Rizwan Ahmed — to be dismissed thus far fell to fast bowler Tabish Khan who picked those wickets for 45 runs in 12 overs with KESC skipper Javed Mansoor holding all the catches behind the stumps.

Barring opener Bismillah Khan, the rest of KESC batting struggled. Bismillah was the leading run-getter with a 116-ball knock of 82 that was embedded with 16 boundaries.

Fellow opener Ahsan Ali contributed 26 off 49 balls with the aid of five fours in the opening stand of 49. In-form Akbar-ur-Rehman scored 24 off 35 balls with five boundaries.

Javed Mansoor hit four boundaries in making 24 from 27 deliveries, while tailender Saeed Khan chipped in with undefeated 20 (34 balls, three fours).
