KARACHI, April 27: A teenager was shot dead allegedly by the security guard of another teenage boy in Defence Society on Saturday, police said.

SSP-South Nasir Aftab told Dawn that Hamza Ahmed, 16, was killed when the guard of Shoaib fired at him outside a restaurant in Khyaban-i-Sehar.

He said Hamza accused Shoaib of harassing a female friend of his. The girl complained to Hamza, who called Shoaib and asked him to keep away from the girl.

However, they set up a meeting at a restaurant in Defence Society, where Shoaib proposed to resolve the matter in person, he added.

The police said that the two met outside the restaurant, but an altercation followed after which Hamza cuffed Shoaib across the face.

They said that Shoaib’s private security guard pulled out his pistol and fired multiple shots at Hamza from a very close range.

The boy was critically wounded and died while being taken to hospital.

Soon after the shooting, Shoaib and his guard escaped in their car.

But the SSP claimed that Shoaib was taken into custody later and the police seized his car and a pistol as well.

However, the guard was still at large and the police were carrying out raids to arrest him, he added.

According to police, Shoaib claimed that his guard shot the victim on his own and he [Shoaib] had not directed him to do so.

Area DSP Sarfraz Nawaz said the victim and the suspect were students of separate schools in the Defence area.

“We are grilling the suspect. Right now we don’t know for how long he had been teasing the girl.”
