KARACHI, May 19: At least four factory workers were injured after the roof of an industrial unit collapsed in the Site area on Monday.

The police later identified the injured as Naheed, 25, Latif, 18, Shahzad, 25 and Hashim, 20.

The injured were admitted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

SUICIDE ATTEMPT: A 20-year-old man, Dilip Kumar, who had attempted to commit suicide by ingesting a poisonous substance in the Lyari area, died in the Civil Hospital on Monday.

The police said that the young man had tried to commit suicide on May 17 after he failed to convince a girl’s parents to marry their daughter off with him.

Police said that Dilip Kumar, a resident of Baghdadi area, had been in love with a girl living in Dhobi Gath, Lea Market.

ARRESTS: The Railway police on Monday arrested six men for their alleged involvement in the illegal selling of railway scrap.

Officials of the City railway police said that they had registered an FIR 16/2003 on the complaint of a railway officer, Aftab Mehdi, against Mohammad Sharif, Mohammad Qasim, Mohammad Siddique, Abdus Samad, Niaz Badshah and Mohammad Sohail.

Police said that the suspects were junk dealers, adding that they had purchased stolen railway scrap and other material.

Officials of the Pakistan Railways accused the suspects of having acquired the railway scrap and other material through illegal means.

ROBBERY: Bandits robbed a retail shop in Baldia Town early Monday morning.

According to the shopkeeper, four or five armed men had broken the locks of a retail shop in Sarhad Colony, Baldia Town.

The shopkeeper said that the police arrived two hours after the occurrence of the incident despite having informed the police on ‘15.’

The shopkeeper said that his losses amounted to Rs6,000 in the shape of several bags of flour and other commodities.
