PESHAWAR:  The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued directives to deploy Levies forces for the May 11 polls in nine volatile districts of the restive province.

The Home and Tribal Affairs Department, in the directive issued Monday, instructed the deputy commissioners of Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Hangu, Karak and Torghar to coordinate the movement of the troops and their deployment with the respective district police chiefs.

According to the document, the Levis forces would also perform duties assigned to them as per security plans of the DPOs in their districts for the purpose of maintenance of law and order during the general elections.

The home department has also directed the concerned law enforcement agencies and Director General Peshawar Development Authority (DG PDA) to check mushrooming of illegal guest houses in the province, especially in the provincial capital Peshawar.

The illegal guest houses and their occupants pose serious law and order concerns and need to be checked, said the document.
