MUZAFFARABAD, May 18: At least five people, including a police constable, were injured on Sunday when Indian troops targeted a passenger wagon in the Neelum valley from across the Line of Control, police said.

The vehicle (AJKA-697) with 18 people on board was coming to Barian village from Athmuqam when it was hit by a mortar shell near Zero Point. The wagon was badly damaged and five people, including the driver and his helper, were injured.

The injured: driver Mushtaq, conductor Shafiq, Police Constable Abdul Hamid, Ghulam Hussain and Shaloo Butt, were admitted to a military hospital, where three of them were said to be in critical condition.

Police said Indian troops also shelled Leepa valley but no casualties were reported.

BOY INJURED: A boy was wounded when a shell exploded in his hands in a border village, police said.

Mohammad Amjad, 13, son of Abdul Aziz, was herding cattle in Chamb Moori village, near the LoC, in the Chakothi sector when he found the unexploded mortar shell.

As he picked up the device, it went off in his hands. As a result, he was injured and his cow was killed, a police officer said.

Police say unexploded shells fired by the Indian troops from across the LoC are scattered in a large number in the border areas.
