ISLAMABAD: Former Law Minister Wasi Zafar was arrested on Wednesday allegedly for creating a ruckus during proceedings in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), however, he got relief after tendering an unconditional apology to the court.

The former law minister appeared before the court in a family dispute case but during the hearing he erupted with emotions and violated the court’s decorum.

Upon which, the IHC bench, headed by Justice Shaukat Siddiqui, ordered his arrest and the police was quick to move into action.

Zafar was law minister during the regime of General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and was a subject of ire by lawyers during the movement for the reinstatement of judges deposed by the former military ruler.

He was among the few ministers who vigorously defended the Musharraf government when a controversy erupted over the reference filed against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
