Enforcement of Shariat urged

BAJAUR, May 16: The Amir of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Bajaur Agency, MNA Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Sadiq, on Friday demanded immediate repeal of the laws of the colonial era, especially the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), and enforcement of Shariat in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Speaking at a function of the Tribal Union of Journalists, he said the Fata people had given a heavy mandate to the religious parties to change the laws imposed during the colonial rule. The mandate sought repeal of the  FCR and enforcement of an Islamic system, he said.

He said that the federal and the NWFP governments should immediately take steps to strike out the controversial and inhuman laws imposed during the British rule.

He said the federal government allocated nominal funds for the uplift of Fata while it had released huge amounts to the National Assembly members who supported the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) and a lot of development schemes had been initiated in their constituencies.

Maulana  Sadiq said the Fata MNAs would boycott National Assembly sessions if the government failed to allocate equal funds to them for development, repeal the FCR and enforce Shariat in the tribal areas.
