HYDERABAD, May 16: Employees of Sindh Agriculture University continued their protest for fifth consecutive day on Friday by staging a sit-in outside the administration block of the university in Tando Jam.

They are protesting against the policies of the vice chancellor and appointment of retired army officers in the university.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the employees action committee, Abdul Majeed Rashidi, Hussain Bux Veesar and others said that the vice chancellor was using retired army officers to intimidate the university employees.

Academic activities have been disrupted due to the on-going protest of the university employees.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the university administration claimed that SAU VC Dr Bashir Ahmed Chandio had constituted a seven-member committee, headed by Dr Nazeer Hussain Leghari, dean, faculty of engineering, to hold talks with the action committee to resolve problems of the lower staff.

It said that talks were held between the vice chancellor’s committee and employees action committee on Wednesday and some matters were unanimously resolved.

The issues, according to press release, included the establishment of funds to provide financial help to heirs of retired employees, convening of promotion committee’s meeting for promotion of employees, increase in uniform amount, repairs of residential quarters and increase in allowance of drivers.

The press release further said the university administration, after accepting the recommendations of the vice chancellor’s committee, had issued orders for the implementation of the recommendations.

PML-Q: Pakistan Muslim League(Q), youth wing, has appealed to the party high command not to accept resignation of the provincial secretary of the youth wing Dr Shafiq Arain.

Speaking at a news conference at the local press club on Friday, the district president of the youth wing, Faheem Baig Mughal, said that Dr Arain was approached by people for resolution of their problems.

As the problems were not resolved, they added, Dr Arain tendered resignation due to frustration.
