Hand-knotted carpet fair

KARACHI, May 16: The Export Promotion Bureau in collaboration with the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association is organizing ‘Pakistan hand-knotted carpet’ exhibition at the Karachi Expo centre from August 28-31.

The exhibition is likely to be inaugurated by President Pervez Musharraf, while Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali is expected to preside over the concluding ceremony.

Thousands of hand-knotted carpets in various sizes, colours and shades designed and crafted in Pakistan will be put on display in this prestigious commercial event.

Carpet lovers and importers, in hundreds, from various parts of the world will visit the show to place export orders.

Export of carpets from Pakistan in 2000-2001 was valued at $288.82 million. About 80 per cent of Pakistan’s carpet are shipped to 16 destinations in the world. Among them the US is on the top as its share in Pakistan’s carpet exports is 38.84 per cent.
