PESHAWAR, May 14: The Deputy Speaker of the NWFP Assembly, Mr. Ikramullah Shahid, has asked the education and health departments to consider the appeals filed by the doctors and teachers against their transfers and postings.

Presiding over a meeting of the special committee of the NWFP Assembly constituted by the House to review the transfers of the doctors and teachers, Mr Shahid said that all those who had submitted appeals or would be doing so within a week should be considered and justice should be done.

The committee was informed that most of the transfers and postings were politically motivated which needed to be reversed. Some of the people, who had been working in hospitals’ stores for the last 15-20 years, had not been removed, the meeting was told.

The committee was however informed by the officials concerned that the appeals were being looked into and ensured that justice would be done.

It decided to review the appeals of the doctors in the next meeting on May 16, whereas the appeals filed by the teachers would be taken up on May 17.

DEMO: The Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday against the expulsion of students from the Islamia College, and demanded of the government to remove the principal of the college and vice-chancellor of University of Peshawar.

The students marched from the College recreation centre and culminated at the coffee shop.

They were holding placards inscribed with slogans against the principal and the vice- chancellor.

Speaking to the protesting students, IJT student leader alleged the principal of converting the college into a centre of obscenity, saying that a few weeks ago the warden of Turangzai hostel was caught with a women in objectionable condition.

The students, he said, protested against the indecent act, but the principal instead of taking action against the warden expelled the innocent students from the college.

The principal at the behest of the vice-chancellor didn’t give a chance to the students to explain their position, he added.

He demanded of the governor to remove the vice-chancellor of the university of Peshawar and reinstate the students within 24 hours.
